As prices in much of the nation increased during the past week, Hawaii gas prices, for the most part, barely moved, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular is $3.18 a gallon, one cent lower than last week, eight cents less than a month ago and 46 cents less than the price on this date last year, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular stayed at $3, unchanged from last week, 11 cents lower than a month ago and 52 cents less than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.46 remained unchanged compared to a week ago, is three cents lower than a month ago and 28 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.41, which is four cents lower than last Thursday, 12 cents lower than a month ago and 43 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.53, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, six cents lower than last month and 29 cents lower than a year ago today.

“In the past week, demand for gasoline increased and production remained at a lower level than normal to help reduce inventory,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “While still much lower than at this time last year, oil prices internationally are increasing, so we may see prices continue to slowly rise.”
