Weekend Gas Watch: State Average 50 Cents a Gallon Less Than Last Year

Statewide gas prices dropped again over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $2.55, one cent less than a week ago, eight cents less than last month and 50 cents less than a year ago, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. 

 

In Honolulu, today’s average price is $2.34, which is two cents less than last week, 11 cents less than last month and 63 cents lower than last year.  The Hilo average price is $2.55, up two cents from last Thursday, three cents lower than last month and 43 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.10, unchanged since last Thursday, four cents less than last month and four cents less on this date a year ago.

 

“Hawaii ($2.55) is the nation’s most expensive market for retail gasoline, and regional neighbors California ($2.43), Alaska ($2.18), Washington ($2.06) and Nevada ($2.01) are the only states with averages above $2 per gallon,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. Pump prices in the majority of states (22) are at or below the $1.75 per gallon and consumers in Arizona ($1.54), South Carolina ($1.55) and Tennessee ($1.58) are paying the nation’s lowest averages at the pump.
