Gas prices rose in some areas and fell in other metro areas across The Aloha State over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.23 a gallon, which is the same as last week, up four cents from last month and down 42 cents from a year ago at this time, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded rose two cents to $3.05 per gallon, which is three cents higher than a month ago and 47 cents less than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.48, which is one cent higher than last week, three cents more than a month ago and 28 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.48, which is three cents less than last Thursday, five cents higher than a month ago and 35 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.54, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, two cents higher than last month and 29 cents lower than a year ago today.
“As traffic continues to pick up on roads in Hawaii this summer, we remind drivers to keep their vehicles maintained according to manufacturer recommendations,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Properly inflated tires, a clean engine air filter, and regular oil changes can help maximize a car or truck’s fuel efficiency.”
