Gas prices around the state continued to change by one or two cents over the past week in most areas as they have for many weeks, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.23 a gallon for the third consecutive week, up four cents from last month and down 42 cents from a year ago at this time, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded rose one cent to $3.07 per gallon compared to last week and is seven cents higher than a month ago and 46 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.48, which is one cent lower than last week, six cents more than a month ago and 30 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.49, a penny more than last week, four cents higher than a month ago and 35 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.59, which is seven cents higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than last month and 25 cents lower than a year ago today.

“We’re still seeing prices go up and down consistently in a small price band, compared to the mainland where prices have been steadily increasing for weeks,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Although cars and trucks aren’t being used as much now, owners need to remember to keep them maintained for when they will be needed.”
