Gas prices around the state continued to show moderate changes over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.23 a gallon for the third consecutive week, up four cents from last month and down 42 cents from a year ago at this time, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded rose one cent to $3.06 per gallon compared to last week and is five cents higher than a month ago and 42 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.49, which is one cent higher than last week, three cents more than a month ago and 27 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.48, unchanged from last week, five cents higher than a month ago and 36 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.52, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, three cents lower than last month and 31 cents lower than a year ago today.

“Until demand changes significantly in the state, we may see these small changes in gas prices as the norm,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “However, even if drivers aren’t using their cars and trucks as much right now, they should still maintain them as their vehicle manufacturer recommends.  Remember to check the condition of the oil, wipers and tires.”
