Average gas prices in Hawai’i either remained the same or increased by a penny over the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular is $3.20 a gallon, which is unchanged for the past three weeks, a penny more than a month ago and 44 cents less than the price on this date last year, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular rose a penny to $3.01 per gallon which is the same as a month ago and 51 cents less than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.45, which is unchanged for three weeks, one cent more than a month ago and 27 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.45, which is a penny more than last Thursday, two cents higher than a month ago and 38 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.55, which unchanged from last Thursday, five cents higher than last month and 27 cents lower than a year ago today.
“We’ve seen prices remain pretty stable for nearly a month, which reflects the fact that vehicle miles traveled in the state is about half of what it was before the state lockdown in March,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Other states have seen traffic demand increase, so gas prices have increased as well.”
INRIX, the traffic data analysis company, has estimated that vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in Hawaii is at 54% of the estimated VMT at the end of February.
