For the third consecutive week, average gas prices in Hawai’i remained relatively flat with prices staying the same or changing by a penny or two, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular is $3.18 a gallon, which is unchanged for two weeks, two cents less than a month ago and 47 cents less than the price on this date last year, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular remained at $2.99 per gallon, unchanged from last week, four cents lower than a month ago and 54 cents less than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.43, which is two cents lower than a week ago, the same as a month ago and 29 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.44, which is a penny higher than last Thursday, seven cents lower than a month ago and 40 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.52, one cent lower than last Thursday and last month and 32 cents lower than a year ago today.

“Gas prices in this state have remained relatively constant while other states have seen larger increases over the past few weeks,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “It seems our state has reach a state of equilibrium relative to supply and demand.  As the economy picks up, we would expect prices to increase, too.”
