Some Hawaii drivers saw record-high gas prices at the pump earlier this week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch, while the national average continues to trend downward.
Today’s statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline is $5.64 per gallon, down 1 cent from last week and $1.17 higher than a year ago. The record-high statewide average price was $5.67, set on November 3, 2026.
The national average is $4.10 per gallon, down 12 cents from last week and up $1.03 from a year ago. Gas prices have been going down for nearly two weeks, as crude oil has dipped back into the high $80 - low $90 per barrel range. But pump prices remain the highest they’ve ever been during this time of year.
At $5.64 per gallon, Hawaii has the nation’s second-highest average gas price, behind California at $5.83. Nevada ranks third at $5.18.
In Honolulu, regular unleaded averages $5.59 per gallon, up 1 cent from last week and $1.21 higher than a year ago. Hilo’s average is $5.68, down 1 cent from last week and $1.04 higher than a year ago. Hilo’s record-high average was $5.72, set three days ago on Nov. 2.
In Kahului, the average is $5.72 per gallon, down 2 cents from last week and $1.22 higher than a year ago. Lihue’s average is $5.85, down 2 cents from last week and 90 cents higher than a year ago.
“Hawaii drivers recently saw the statewide average gas price reach a record high of $5.67 per gallon, and prices remain higher than they were this time last year,” said Kandace Redd, AAA Hawaii spokesperson. “Even though prices have dipped slightly over the past week, the cost of filling up continues to put pressure on household budgets. Drivers can help ease the pain at the pump by comparing gas prices, combining errands, planning routes ahead of time, keeping tires properly inflated and avoiding unnecessary idling. A few small changes in driving habits can help improve fuel efficiency and save money.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Nov. 5, averages are:
