Hawaii gas prices changed very little this week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Hawaii is $5.64 per gallon, up 1 cent from last week and $1.16 higher than a year ago.
The national average is $4.27 per gallon, down 6 cents from last week and up $1.21 from a year ago. The decline is partly driven by the seasonal transition to winter-blend gasoline, which is cheaper to produce and typically costs less at the pump.
Hawaii has the nation’s second-highest average gas price at $5.64 per gallon, behind California at $6.08. Washington ranks third at $5.34.
In Honolulu, regular unleaded averages $5.58 per gallon, up 3 cents from last week and $1.18 higher than a year ago. Hilo’s average is $5.68 per gallon, down 2 cents from last week and $1.02 higher than a year ago.
In Kahului, the average is $5.73 per gallon, up 1 cent from last week and $1.23 higher than a year ago. Lihue’s average is $5.87 per gallon, down 1 cent from last week and 92 cents higher than a year ago.
“Hawaii gas prices remain relatively steady, with the statewide average up just 1 cent from last week,” said AAA Hawaii spokesperson Kandace Redd. “However, prices remain more than a dollar higher than they were this time last year. Drivers can save by shopping around, comparing prices and taking advantage of fuel discounts.”
