Average gas prices around the state remained within a penny of last week’s price average as they have for many weeks, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.24 a gallon, down a penny compared to last week, up four cents from last month and down 42 cents from a year ago at this time, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded dropped a penny to $3.06 per gallon compared to last week and is four cents higher than a month ago and 47 cents lower than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $3.49, which is one cent higher than last week, four cents more than a month ago and 29 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.49 which is unchanged from last week, three cents higher than a month ago and 34 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.58, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, four cents higher than last month and 26 cents lower than a year ago today.
“Until there is a significant change in the price of oil or gasoline demand, I believe we’ll see average gasoline prices remain in this narrow price range,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Remember, if your car or truck hasn’t been driven for a while, check the fluids, tire air pressure and battery, so it will be ready when you need to go somewhere.”
