Gas prices in most local areas remained stable or moved up by a penny or less over the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.68 a gallon, which is unchanged from last Thursday, three cents higher than a month ago and 12 cents lower than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.55, which is the same as last week, two cents higher than a month ago and 13 cents lower than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.80, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, three cents higher than on this date last month and 10 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.87, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, four cents higher than a month ago and 25 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.88, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, five cents higher than last month and 15 cents lower than a year ago today.

“As we move toward the end of the year, we usually see gasoline demand drop, causing a drop in gas prices as well,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “In many other states, lower demand is already pushing down gas prices slightly, although West Coast states have seen an increase because of supply problems and California drivers are now paying 65 to 70 cents more per gallon than those in Honolulu.”

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find AAA discounts, book a hotel and access AAA Roadside Assistance. Learn more at AAA.com/Mobile.
