Gasoline goblins may be returning as the pace of fuel price declines slowed in the islands during the past week, and the average price of a gallon of gas increased in Hilo, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The Hawaii state average for regular unleaded is $4.07 per gallon, two cents less than last week, 13 cents less than last month and 19 cents less than on this day last year.
Honolulu’s average price dropped to $3.97 a gallon for regular unleaded – one cent less than last week, 13 cents less than last month and 21 cents less than a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.08 per gallon, two cents more than last Thursday, 13 cents less than last month and 15 cents less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $4.30 a gallon, a penny lower than last week, 10 cents below last month and 10 cents less than the price last year.
State averages around the country currently are: Hawaii at $4.07, Alaska at $3.75, California at $3.64 and Texas at $2.98, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. Missouri’s state average, at $2.85 a gallon, is noted as the lowest in the nation in the report.
