Gas Prices Continue to Follow Demand Down

Gasoline prices continued to decline statewide as demand for gasoline continues to drop, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.26 a gallon, which is five cents lower than last week, 27 cents less than a month ago and 32 cents less than the price on this date last year, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.08, which is eight cents lower than last week, 31 cents lower than a month ago and 38 cents less than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.47, which is unchanged compared to a week ago, 17 cents lower than on this date last month and 20 cents lower than on this date a year ago. 

In Kahului, the average price is $3.54, which is three cents lower than last Thursday, 17 cents lower than a month ago and 24 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.55, which is three cents lower than last Thursday, 25 cents lower than last month and 22 cents lower than a year ago today. 

“Prices in Hawaii continue to drop, but the state is the only one in the U.S. with a statewide gas price average above $3 per gallon and one of 12 states with an average price above $2 per gallon,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
