Gasoline prices continued to drop throughout the state in response to declining demand and oil prices, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.34 a gallon, which is seven cents lower than last week, 23 cents less than a month ago and 14 cents less than the price on this date last year, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.20, which is nine cents lower than last week, 24 cents lower than a month ago and 15 cents less than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.50, which is six cents lower than a week ago, 21 cents lower than on this date last month and five cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.58, which is four cents lower than last Thursday, 16 cents lower than a month ago and16 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.61, which is five cents lower than last Thursday, 24 cents lower than last month and five cents lower than a year ago today.
“While oil prices jumped today on the hope that Saudi Arabia and Russia can agree on production cuts, the fact remains that gasoline demand has continued to weaken,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Gasoline production is dropping, and inventories are climbing worldwide.”
