As Holiday Travelers Begin Arriving, Some Gas Prices Move Up Slightly

Gas prices remained stable in Honolulu but rose slightly on the Big Island and Kauai over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.67 a gallon, which is a penny higher than last Thursday, two cents higher than a month ago and 15 cents lower than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.54, which is the same as last week, also the same as a month ago and 13 cents lower than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.78, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, two cents higher than on this date last month and nine cents lower than on this date a year ago. 

In Kahului, the average price is $3.83, which is the same as last Thursday, one cent lower than a month ago and 31 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.86, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, two cents higher than last month and 14 cents lower than a year ago today. 

“AAA is projecting that 55 million Americans will take holiday trips over the Thanksgiving weekend, and many of them will be coming here – Oahu is the No. 5 destination nationwide, and Maui is No. 8,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Gas prices have remained stable for the past several months and we expect that trend to continue through the holiday.”
