Hawaii residents saw average gas prices drop around the islands this past week and Honolulu’s average gas price slipped by six cents to $2.85 a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The current Hawaii state average for a gallon of regular is $3.01, down six cents from last week, 21 cents less than last month and $1.25 a gallon lower than a year ago.
Honolulu’s average gas price is 23 cents lower than a month ago and $1.37 less than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.95 per gallon, two cents less than last week, 32 cents less than last month and $1.15 cents less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.36, eight cents less since last Thursday, eight cents less on this date last month and $1.05 a gallon less than on this date last year.
“Today, Alaska ($3.34), California ($3.23), Hawaii ($3.01), Nevada ($3.09) and Washington ($2.85) continue as the top five most expensive gasoline markets in the country. But on the opposite side of the country, South Carolina ($1.96) motorists are paying the lowest price at the pump in the nation,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app can also be used to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.”
