The Aloha State’s gas price averages increased again this past week although price averages still remain about $1 less per gallon than on this date a year ago, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
The current Hawaii state average for a gallon of regular is $3.14, six cents more than last week, a dime more than last month, and $1.01 a gallon lower than a year ago. Motorists can check gas prices at www.fuelgaugereport.aaa.com.
Honolulu’s average gas price this week crossed over $3 a gallon to $3.06, up seven cents since last Thursday, 13 cents higher than last month and $1 a gallon less than on this date a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.10 per gallon, up seven cents from last week, eight cents more than last month and 98 cents less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.21 a gallon, up a nickel from last week, unchanged from last month and $1.08 less on this date last year.
“While the past three weeks have seen price increases, gas price averages are still much less than they were a year ago,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Average gas prices for the mainland have stalled or risen to the high $2 a gallon range. California is the only other state remaining over $3 a gallon. Other high priced states include Alaska at $2.92 a gallon, California at $3.41, Nevada at $2.88 and Oregon at $2.87.”
