AAA Weekend Gas Watch: Honolulu Below $3.50 A Gallon

Holiday cheer arrives with another week of cheaper gasoline and more budget savings for Hawaii residents and tourists, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The current state price average for a gallon of regular is $3.56, which is 11 cents less than last Thursday, 34 cents less than last month, and 35 cents lower than a year ago.

Honolulu’s average price of $3.44 dropped by 12 cents a gallon since last Thursday and is 37 cents less than last month and 36 cents less than on this date a year ago. The last time the average price in Honolulu was below $3.50 a gallon was on Dec. 22, 2010 at $3.49 a gallon, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.  In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.51 per gallon, down eight cents from last Thursday, 33 cents less than last month and 41 cents less than this time a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.77 a gallon, down 13 cents from last Thursday, 38 cents lower than last month and 42 cents less on this date last year.  

“Drivers across the country continue to see prices declining at the retail pump due to a 50 percent drop in the cost of crude oil since spring,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “State average prices dropped 10-15 cents a gallon this past week with Alaska at $3.19 a gallon, California at $2.70, Missouri at $2.01 and Nevada at $2.55. Numerous states currently show averages of $2.01 to $2.50 a gallon on www.fuelgaugereport.aaa.com.”
