AAA Weekend Gas Watch: Hawaii Prices Up, Still $1 Less Than 2014

Hawaii gas price averages saw increases again during the past week but prices remain at least $1 a gallon less than a year ago, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The current Hawaii state average for a gallon of regular is $3.21, eight cents more than last week, 10 cents more than last month and $1.16 a gallon lower than a year ago.

 

Honolulu’s average gas price sits at $3.13, a dime more since last Thursday, 15 cents higher from last month and $1.21 a gallon less than a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.17 per gallon, eight cents more than last week, seven cents more than last month and $1.01 less than this time a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.34, nine cents more since last Thursday, a dime more than on this date last month and $1.12 less on this date last year.  

 

“Although the state average is currently moving higher, consumers are still experiencing a significant year-over-year-savings and today’s state average price is $1.16 per gallon less than a year ago,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.  “The Islands and West Coast continue to lead the nation in posting the highest prices for retail gasoline and California ($3.70) remains the nation’s most expensive market.  Hawaii and California are joined by two other states with averages above $3 per gallon: Nevada ($3.20) and Alaska ($3.14),” she added.
