Hawaii average gas price averages stayed relatively flat during the past week following a spate of weekly increases since January, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The current Hawaii state average for a gallon of regular is $3.14, the same as last week, 12 cents more than last month, and $1.03 a gallon lower than a year ago. Honolulu’s average gas price today sits at $3.06, the same price as last week, 13 cents higher than last month and $1.04 a gallon less than a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.11 per gallon, up one cent from last week, 13 cents more than last month and $1.01 less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.22 a gallon, up one cent from last week, 12 cents higher than last month and $1.09 less than on this date last year.
“The price of oil has decreased in recent days, so that should contribute to lower prices at the pump, keeping gas price averages much lower than they were a year ago,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Average gas prices for the mainland have stalled or seen relatively small changes. California remains the only other state with a gas price average higher than $3, with an average price of $3.32. Many other states have seen prices begin to flatten or drop in recent days.”
