Hawaii residents saw average gas prices drop around most of the islands this past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The current Hawaii state average for a gallon of regular is $3.18, down three cents from last week, 16 cents less than last month and $1.11 a gallon lower than a year ago.
Honolulu’s average gas price slipped by three cents to $3.03 and is 21 cents lower than a month ago and $1.23 less than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.23 per gallon, four cents less than last week, a dime less than last month and 86 cents less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.43, unchanged since last Thursday, two cents less than last month and $1.01 less than on this date last year.
“The relatively low price of crude oil continues to cause significant year-over-year savings at the pump,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Pump prices are discounted by $1 or more in five states compared to the same date last year: Hawaii (-$1.11), Connecticut (-$1.06), Vermont (-$1.05), Alabama (-$1.01) and New Hampshire (-$1.01). Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app can also be used to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.”
