AAA Hawaii: State Average Tops $3 a Gallon

Hawaii pump prices increased throughout most of the islands during the last week leading to today’s statewide average price to cross over the $3.00 a gallon mark, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.02, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, 18 cents higher than a month ago, and 34 cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com 

In Honolulu, today’s average price is $2.90, which is six cents higher than as last Thursday, 19 cents more than on this date last month and 39 cents higher than last year.  The Hilo average price is $2.92, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, 10 cents higher than on this date last month and 38 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.42, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, 14 cents higher than on this date last month and 20 cents above this date a year ago.

“Rising oil prices are among the reasons for increased prices at the pump in Hawaii and also nationwide,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.  “Gas prices in the west continue to be some of the highest in the country, with almost every state in the region among the most expensive markets with state average above $2.50 a gallon: Hawaii, $3.02, California, $2.77, Alaska, $2.71, Washington, $2.69 and Oregon, $2.51.”
