AAA Hawaii: Gas Prices Up Heading into New Year

Annual Avg Hawaii

Hawaii pump prices increased throughout the islands during the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $2.97, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, 13 cents higher than a month ago, and 28 cents higher than on this date a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Honolulu, today’s average price is $2.84, which is the same price as last Thursday, 13 cents more than on this date last month and 31 cents higher than last year.  The Hilo average price is $2.89, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, nine cents higher than on this date last month and 33 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.43, which is four cents higher than last Thursday, 14 cents higher than on this date last month and 17 cents above this date a year ago.

“The good news is Hawaii drivers have saved a lot of money on gas this year – the 2016 average annual price paid statewide is $2.74 a gallon, the lowest since 2005’s annual average of $2.69,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.  “This week’s price increases were likely due to rising oil prices along with a drop in supplies and an increase in demand over the busy holiday period.”
