AAA Hawaii: Gas Prices Drop In Cities

Hawaii gas prices are down in the metropolitan areas although they are unchanged for the week statewide, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $2.72, unchanged from last Thursday, nine cents lower than a month ago, and 47 cents lower than a year ago, according to


In Honolulu, today’s average price is $2.52, which is down one cent from last Thursday, 10 cents less than on this date last month and 53 cents lower than last year.  The Hilo average price is $2.69, four cents lower than last Thursday, 19 cents lower than last month and 56 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.26, down one cent since last Thursday, no change from this date last month and 18 cents less than on this date a year ago.


“Talk of an OPEC oil production freeze has had an upward impact on crude oil prices this week, but so far that has not affected Hawaii pump prices,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “With a statewide average price of $2.72, Hawaii continues to have the highest U.S. gas prices, with California ($2.63), Alaska ($2.57), Washington ($2.57) and Idaho ($2.46) just behind.”
