AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch; Prices Drip Down, Savings Up

Hawaii residents saw average gas prices dip around most of the islands this past week and Honolulu’s average gas price declined by a penny to $2.71 a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The current Hawaii state average for a gallon of regular slipped to $2.88, down a penny from last week, 14 cents less than last month and $1.28 a gallon lower than a year ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.

 

Honolulu’s average gas price is 16 cents lower than a month ago and $1.35 less than this time last year.  In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.84 per gallon, the same price as last Thursday, 10 cents less than last month and $1.22 cents less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.30, one cent lower since last Thursday, nine cents less on this date last month and $1.09 a gallon less than on this date last year.

 

“Drivers nationwide continue to experience significant yearly savings in the price of retail gasoline. The average price at the pump is down by more than $1 per gallon in 30 states and Washington D.C. year-over-year and consumers in Hawaii (-$1.28) are saving the most per gallon over this same period,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “The savings in Honolulu is even greater at

$1.35 a gallon less than a year ago,” she added.

 

“Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance,” she said.
