Hawaii gas prices reversed course and rose slightly in some areas over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The statewide average price rose by a penny to $2.89 a gallon, which is 7 cents lower than last month and 1.22 lower than on this date last year.

Honolulu’s average gas price is $2.73 today, 2 cents more than last week, 13 cents less than a month ago and $1.27 less than this time last year.  In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.82 per gallon, 2 cents less than last Thursday, 9 cents less than last month and $1.22 cents less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.30, unchanged from a week ago, 2 cents less than last month and $1.06 a gallon less than on this date last year.

“Relatively speaking, Hawaii gas prices in most areas are far lower than in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, which all have average prices today between $2.90 and $3.00 a gallon,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.
