Hawaii drivers continue to enjoy some of the lowest gas prices in seven years with more price declines or price stability around the islands over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The statewide average price today is $2.68, one cent less than last Thursday, 10 cents less than last month and 76 cents less than a year ago.

Honolulu’s average gas price is $2.52 today, the same price as last Thursday, 11 cents less than last month and 82 cents less than this time last year.  In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.56 per gallon, three cents less than last Thursday, seven cents less than last month and 83 cents less than this time a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.22, three cents less than last Thursday, seven cents less than last month and 49 cents less than at this time last year.

“On the mainland, refinery maintenance and outages helped maintain California’s ($2.88) position as the nation’s most expensive market for retail gasoline. Drivers in the Golden State are paying an average price that is 20 cents per gallon more than second-place Hawaii ($2.68), which is typically the market’s leader,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.  Regional neighbors Nevada ($2.51), Washington ($2.45) and Alaska ($2.47) round out the top five most expensive markets, she added.

Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.
