Hawaii prices continued on a reverse course and rose slightly in some areas over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price rose by a penny to $2.90 a gallon, which is two cents lower than last month and $1.18 lower than on this date last year.
Honolulu’s average gas price is $2.74 today, a penny more than last week, two cents less than last month and $1.22 less than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.83 per gallon, one cent more than last Thursday, two cents less than last month and $1.15 less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.30, unchanged from a week ago, one cent less than last month and $1.05 a gallon than on this date a year ago.
“Motorists in South Carolina ($1.91) and Alabama (($1.95) are paying the nation’s lowest prices at the pump today. States in the west continue to show the highest averages at the pump. Hawaii ($2.90) and California ($2.86) are the nation’s most expensive markets for retail gasoline,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance,” she said.
