Hawaii prices declined slightly in some areas over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price dipped by a penny to $2.89 a gallon, which is one cent lower than last month and $1.15 lower than on this date last year.
Honolulu’s average gas price is $2.73 today, a penny less than last week, one cent more than last month and $1.20 less than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.80 per gallon, three cents less than last Thursday, two cents less than last month and $1.21 less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.32, two cents more than last Thursday, two cents less than last month and 99 cents a gallon less than on this date a year ago.
“Drivers in 45 states and Washington, D.C. are saving at least 75 cents per gallon when they refuel their vehicles,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Six states are posting year-over-year savings of $1 or more per gallon, with the largest savings at the pump seen in Alaska (-$1.25), Hawaii (-$1.15) and Connecticut (-$1.06). Nevada (-47 cents) remains the only state where drivers are not experiencing yearly savings of at least 50 cents per gallon,” she added.
“Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance,” she said.
