Hawaii prices were mixed over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price is the same price as last Thursday at $2.87 a gallon, which is also the same price on this date last month and $1.11 lower than on this date last year.
Honolulu’s average gas price is $2.72 today, the same price as last Thursday, one cent more than last month and $1.14 less than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.76 per gallon, two cents less than last Thursday, a nickel less than last month and $1.15 less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.31, one cent more than last Thursday, a penny less than last month and 94 cents a gallon less than on this date a year ago.
“Drivers in six states are paying an average below $2 per gallon, and consumers in South Carolina ($1.94) and Alabama ($1.95) continue to pay the lowest prices at the pump,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Hawaii ($2.87) is the nation’s most expensive market for retail gasoline, and it’s joined by regional neighbors California ($2.82), Nevada ($2.69), Washington ($2.52) and Oregon ($2.42) as the top five most expensive retail gas markets. For the sixth consecutive week, all statewide averages are below $3 per gallon and only four states are posting averages above $2.50 per gallon,” she added.
“Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance,” she said.
