Local gas prices dropped in most areas during the past week as motorists continue to pay less at the pump than during any spring season since 2009, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $2.57, down three cents from last week, up one cent from this date last month and down 52 cents from a year ago, according to the www.AAAFuelGaugeReport.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price is $2.37, which is three cents less than last week, unchanged from last month and 62 cents lower than last year. The Hilo average price is $2.65, one penny higher than last Thursday, eight cents higher than last month and 41 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.09, three cents less than last Thursday, two cents less than last month and 15 cents less than on this date a year ago.
“Hawaii drivers continue to benefit from historically lower oil prices and a healthy inventory of gasoline,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “The state average price currently is 20 cents below that of California, and Honolulu drivers are spending less for gasoline than those in Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Reno.”
Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at www.AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.
