Hawaii prices were mostly down over the past week leading into Thanksgiving and providing motorists savings of more than $1.00 a gallon in some areas since a year ago, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The statewide average price is two cents less since last Thursday at $2.85 a gallon, which is four cents less on this date last month and $1.09 lower than on this date last year.

Honolulu’s average gas price is $2.71 today, a penny less since last Thursday, three cents less than last month and $1.12 less than this time last year.   In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.71 per gallon, five cents less than last Thursday, 12 cents less than last month and $1.15 less than this time a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.32, up one cent since last Thursday, two cents less than last month and 88 cents a gallon less than on this date a year ago.

“Drivers in 14 states are paying an average below $2 per gallon, and consumers in Alabama, Missouri and South Carolina (all $1.88) continue to pay the lowest prices at the pump,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.   “Hawaii ($2.85) is the nation’s most expensive market for retail gasoline, and it’s joined by regional neighbors California ($2.76), Nevada ($2.63), Washington ($2.50) and Oregon ($2.38) as the top five most expensive retail gas markets,” she added.

“Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance,” she said.
