AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch: No Change Before Holiday

July Fourth travel by US Army

Hawaii residents and Fourth of July visitors will pay about $1 less per gallon in most areas to drive around the islands than at this time last year as local gas prices remain almost unchanged from last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  The current Hawaii state average for a gallon of regular is $3.37, unchanged from last week, seven cents more than last month and $1.04 a gallon lower than a year ago.

Honolulu’s average gas price remained at $3.30 over the past week, and is seven cents higher than a month ago and 99 cents less than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.34 per gallon, one cent more than last week, eight cents more than last month and 79 cents less than this time a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.44, unchanged from last Thursday, a nickel more than on this date last month and $1.02 less than on this date last year.

“Hawaii residents who visit California for the Independence Day holiday will have the rare experience of paying more for gasoline there than at home,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Prices have been inching upward in other Western states, but crude oil prices could drop during July because of a reported increase in production which could also keep down prices at the pump.”
