Hawaii gas prices continued to drop to their lowest levels of the year over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price is $2.80, a penny less than last Thursday, 8 cents less than last month and $1.04 less than a year ago.
Honolulu’s average gas price is $2.65 today, two cents less than last Thursday, seven cents less than last month and $1.09 less than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.65 per gallon, one cent lower than last week, 15 cents less than last month and $1.09 less than this time a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.31, unchanged from last Thursday, a penny more than last month and 81 cents less than at this time last year.
“The last time Hawaii motorists paid prices this low was in May of 2009 during the recession,” said AAA Hawaii Liane Sumida. “The lowest state average price in the last 10 years for gasoline was paid by local drivers on Jan. 6, 2009, when gasoline prices averaged $2.28 statewide.”
