AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch: Honolulu Dips To $2.50 A Gallon

Hawaii drivers around the islands pulled up to the fuel pumps this past week and were greeted by more price drops. Honolulu’s average gas price for regular unleaded is now $2.50 a gallon today, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  Honolulu hasn’t seen regular at or below this price since May 15, 2009 when the price was $2.4985, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.


Honolulu’s average gas price today is two cents less than last Thursday, seven cents less than last month and 75 cents less than this time last year.  In Hilo, the average gas price is $2.55 per gallon, one cent less than last Thursday, a nickel less than last month and 78 cents less than this time a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.15, seven cents less than last Thursday, 13 cents less than last month and 51 cents less than at this time last year. 


Given all the local numbers, the statewide average price today is $2.66, two cents less than last Thursday, eight cents less than last month and 73 cents less than a year ago. 


“In mainland news, California ($2.81) remains the most expensive market for gas ahead of second-place Hawaii ($2.66),” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Regional neighbors Nevada ($2.45), Alaska ($2.49) and Washington ($2.38) round out the nation’s top five most expensive markets for retail gasoline. On the other end of the spectrum, Missouri ($1.65) and Oklahoma ($1.66) are the nation’s least expensive markets for retail gasoline,” she added.
