Honolulu drivers may have done a double take when they saw the city’s average gas price for regular unleaded at $2.46 a gallon today, which is four cents less than last Thursday’s benchmark of $2.50 a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.  Honolulu’s average gas price is a dime less than last month and 69 cents less than this time last year.

But in Hilo prices ticked up slightly where the average gas price is $2.57 per gallon, two cents more than last Thursday, a penny more than last month and 71 cents less on this date a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.15, the same price as last Thursday, 13 cents less than last month and 44 cents less than at this time last year.

Today’s statewide average price is $2.63, two cents less than last Thursday, 10 cents less than last month and 68 cents less than a year ago, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.

“Nationwide, retail pump prices continue to drop due to falling oil prices and lower winter demand, but California ($2.71) remains the most expensive market for gas ahead of second-place Hawaii ($2.63),” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Regional neighbors Nevada ($2.38), Alaska ($2.47) and Washington ($2.28) continue to round out the nation’s top five most expensive markets for retail gasoline. On the other end of the spectrum, Missouri ($1.58) and Oklahoma ($1.57) are the nation’s least expensive markets for retail gasoline,” she added.

Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android, available at AAA.com/mobile. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.
