AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch: Stability Ended

Hawaii gas prices, having remained mostly unchanged for more than a month, saw increases between three and eight cents in most areas, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.17, up six cents from last Thursday, six cents higher than a month ago and 26 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com. 

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $2.99, up five cents from last Thursday, six cents higher than a month ago and 20 cents higher than last year. The Hilo average price is $3.16, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, four cents more than last month and 31 cents higher on this date a year ago.  Wailuku’s average is $3.62, up eight cents compared to last Thursday and a month ago and 30 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

“Lower inventories combined with higher oil prices worldwide have finally pushed Hawaii prices higher,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Despite the increase, Honolulu’s average price is still lower compared to any city in California.  As gas-saving tips, AAA Hawaii reminds motorists to shop around for stations with lower prices, keep their tires properly inflated and engines well maintained.”
