Hawaii gas prices moved up again throughout the state over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.39, a penny more than last Thursday, 10 cents higher than a month ago and 31 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.22, two cents higher than last Thursday, 10 cents higher on this date a month ago and 28 cents higher than last year at this time. The Hilo average price is $3.40, which is three cents higher from last Thursday, 14 cents more than on this date last month and 35 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
“Consumer gasoline demand is noticeably higher compared to some weeks in January last year,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “But demand isn’t the only factor driving prices up. Crude oil is selling at a more expensive rate than the past few months. Those higher crude prices are now entering the marketplace and reaching consumers at the pump.”
In Kahului the average price is $3.84, one cent higher than last Thursday, eight cents higher than on this date last month and 38 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s (Kauai) average price for regular is $3.63, which is four cents higher than last Thursday, nine cents higher than on this date last month and 29 cents more than a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.84, a penny higher than last Thursday, eight cents higher than a month ago and 38 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
