AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch: Prices Tick Up

Hawaii gas prices mostly increased slightly or were flat throughout most of the islands, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.51 a gallon, which is the same price as last Thursday, five cents higher than a month ago and 44 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com. 

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.35, unchanged since last Thursday, four cents higher than on this date a month ago and 43 cents higher than last year at this time. The Hilo average price is $3.54, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, seven cents more than on this date last month and 49 cents higher than on this date a year ago. 

“According to the Energy Information Administration, gasoline inventories saw a 2.1 million barrel draw  down last week – a major decline ahead of the spring driving season on the mainland,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.  “Total gasoline stocks in the western part of the U.S. sit at more than 32 million barrels.  This is approximately 3.4 million barrels more than they were at this time last year.”

In Kahului the average price is $3.93, one cent higher than last Thursday, two cents higher than on this date last month and 43 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.62, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, three cents higher than on this date last month and 29 cents more than a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.93, one cent higher than last Thursday, two cents higher than a month ago and 43 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
