Hawaii’s gas price average decline in late August reversed course over the past week, as 10 other states experienced Hurricane Harvey-related price increases ranging from 36 to 44 cents a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.10, up two cents from last Thursday, five cents more than on this date a month ago and 36 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $2.94, up three cents from last Thursday, five cents higher than last month and 35 cents higher than last year. The Hilo average price is $3.11, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, two cents higher than on this date last month and 43 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.51, one cent higher than last Thursday, up a cent from this date a month ago, and 27 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
“Hawaii so far has experienced the least amount of gas price disruption in the U.S. related to Hurricane Harvey, although local prices have risen slightly due to overall supply concerns,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “The Department of Energy reported this week that Gulf Coast refineries are in the process of restarting and pipelines that took precautionary shut downs caused by Harvey either have resumed or are being brought back on line. Our regional AAA teams are also working around the clock in Texas and other areas to help AAA members during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this storm.”
Motorists can find current prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app also can be used by AAA members to map a trip, find discounts, book a AAA-rated hotel and access AAA roadside assistance.
