Gas prices stayed steady or increased in most areas around the islands for the second consecutive week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.91 a gallon, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than a month ago and 74 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.79, which is unchanged from last Thursday, 10 cents higher than on this date a month ago and 80 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.94, which is down a penny from last Thursday, one cent more than on this date last month and 77 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $4.21, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than on this date last month and 57 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.05, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, two cents higher than on this date last month and 62 cents more than a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $4.21, which is four cents higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than on this date a month ago and 62 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

“The weekly Energy Information Administration petroleum status report for the week showed the West Coast region gasoline stocks remained flat at 27 million barrels.  Stocks are approximately 600,000 barrels lower than at this time last year, which could cause prices to spike if there is a supply challenge,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.  “In Hawaii, the state average increased one cent while individual areas saw increases of a few cents each during the past week.”
