Hawaii gas prices moved up throughout the state over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.38, six cents more than last Thursday, nine cents higher than a month ago and 30 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.20, five cents higher than last Thursday, eight cents higher on this date a month ago and 26 cents higher than last year at this time. The Hilo average price is $3.37, which is three cents higher from last Thursday, eight cents more than on this date last month and 37 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
“On the week, Hawaii (+6 cents) saw the West Coast’s largest state average increase, while California increased by four cents and Washington and Nevada increased by only a penny,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Hawaii is tracking with the rest of the nation this year with average gas prices that are higher today than on January 1. There are predictions of possible record gas demand for 2018 nationwide which will push prices upward. Of course, Hawaii’s higher operating costs for gas stations and refineries, and higher transportation costs, keep retail prices amongst the highest in the nation without other factors.”
In Kahului the average price is $3.83, five cents higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than on this date last month and 37 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Also new to the weekly gas watch, Lihue’s (Kauai) average price for regular is $3.59, which is five cents higher than last Thursday, six cents higher than on this date last month and 27 cents more than a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.83, a nickel higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than a month ago and 37 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
