Hawaii gas prices ticked up again for the fourth consecutive week throughout most of the islands, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.45, four cents more than last Thursday, 16 cents higher than a month ago and 34 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.29, five cents higher than last Thursday, 17 cents higher than on this date a month ago and 31 cents higher than last year at this time. The Hilo average price is $3.45, which is four cents higher than last Thursday, 17 cents more than on this date last month and 38 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
“According to the Energy Information Administration, gasoline stocks in the region surged to a five-year peak – increasing by 1.1 million barrels. Inventories of gasoline now sit at 35 million barrels, which is unusually high for the region at this time of year,” said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “No matter what the price, consumers should always shop around for the lowest price near them using the AAA Mobile app, in addition to making sure their vehicle’s tires have the correct tire pressure and the other car systems are working well for fuel efficiency.”
In Kahului the average price is $3.91, five cents higher than last Thursday, 15 cents higher than on this date last month and 43 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.61, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, nine cents higher than on this date last month and 20 cents more than a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $3.91, a nickel higher than last Thursday, 15 cents higher than a month ago and 43 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
