AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch: Prices Inch Up

With the Independence Day holiday less than a week away, Hawaii gas prices continue to creep upward, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.74 a gallon, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, four cents higher than a month ago and 69 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.60, which is unchanged since last Thursday, two cents higher than on this date a month ago and 71 cents higher than last year at this time. The Hilo average price is $3.78, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, seven cents more than on this date last month and 77 cents higher than on this date a year ago. 

In Kahului the average price is $4.08, which is four cents higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than on this date last month and 62 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.88, which is unchanged since last Thursday, the same price on this date last month and 56 cents more than a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $4.08, which is up four cents since last Thursday, seven cents higher than a month ago and 59 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

“On the week, the majority of gas prices in the western states region continued to decline with California and Nevada leading the way at two and three cents a gallon less than a week ago. Only Hawaii saw small increases,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.  “Motorists can stretch their gasoline dollars by using a smooth driving style, consolidating errands and shopping for the best price using the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android.”
