Hawaii gas prices continue to show small increases in some local areas as the Fourth of July holiday approaches, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.73 a gallon, which is one cent higher from last Thursday, six cents higher than a month ago and 68 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.60, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, four cents higher than on this date a month ago and 70 cents higher than last year at this time. The Hilo average price is $3.77, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, 11 cents more than on this date last month and 76 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului the average price is $4.04, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, seven cents higher than on this date last month and 56 cents higher than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.88, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, three cents higher than on this date last month and 58 cents more than a year ago. Wailuku’s average is $4.04, which is up one cent since last Thursday, seven cents higher than a month ago and 55 cents higher than on this date a year ago.

“Gas prices are close to 70 cents higher per gallon than a year ago.  Despite that fact,  the strong economy has only encouraged travelers to make plans to visit Hawaii for the upcoming July Fourth holiday, rent cars and pay our higher gas prices to enjoy all that Hawaii offers,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.  “In fact, Honolulu is one of the top five destinations this Independence Day.  Travelers will also visit Alaska, Seattle, Southern California and Orlando.”

AAA Hawaii reminds drivers that AAA continues to help travelers and the public with fuel information on GasPrices.AAA.com.  Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android.  The app can also be used to map a route, find discounts, and book a hotel and access Roadside Assistance.
