Honolulu drivers experienced a 10th consecutive week of price drops but declines are weakening and some other areas on other islands saw slight increases, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.27 a gallon, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, 24 cents lower than a month ago and six cents less than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com

In Kahului, the average price is $3.64, which is three cents higher than as last Thursday, 22 cents lower than on this date last month and 13 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.53, which is unchanged since last Thursday, 11 cents lower than on this date last month and three cents lower as a year ago today.  Wailuku’s average is $3.64, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, 22 cents lower than on this date a month ago and 13 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

“Western U.S. gasoline supplies surged by approximately 2.4 million barrels to 30.7 million barrels during the past week, the largest one-week build up nearly 26 years, according to a weekly report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.  “The sizable  supply coupled with lower demand is continuing to push down prices. However, the price of crude has been slowly increasing which is starting to push up pump prices in some areas.”
