Honolulu drivers experienced an 11th consecutive week of price declines but the drop was just a penny while some other areas on other islands saw decreases of eight cents a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.26 a gallon, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, 17 cents lower than a month ago and 11 cents less than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.11, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, 18 cents lower than on this date a month ago and nine cents lower than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.26, which is down four cents from last Thursday, 11 cents less than on this date last month and 11 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.56, which is eight cents lower than last Thursday, 27 cents lower than on this date last month and 26 cents lower than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.52, which is down a penny since last Thursday, 10 cents lower than on this date last month and seven cents lower than a year ago today. Wailuku’s average is $3.56, which is eight cents lower than last Thursday, 27 cents lower than on this date a month ago and 26 cents lower than on this date a year ago.
“Crude oil prices have increased by about $5 a barrel since the beginning of the year, but oversupply of crude in the market and low demand have helped to keep the national average relatively stable,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Crude oil prices will be a dominant factor toward determining if motorists will see slightly cheaper or more expensive pump prices in the coming weeks.”
