Gas prices increased throughout the islands but more slowly from the previous week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s statewide average price is $3.62 a gallon, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, 22 cents higher than a month ago and one cent more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.50, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, 25 cents higher than on this date a month ago and four cents higher than on this date last year. The last time the daily average of regular unleaded gas hit $3.50 a gallon in Honolulu was May 8, 2018. The Hilo average price is $3.72, which is up four cents from last Thursday, 24 cents higher than on this date last month and seven cents higher than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.82, which is four cents higher than last Thursday, 14 cents higher than on this date last month and 14 cents lower than on this date a year ago.  Lihue’s average price for regular is $3.83, which is three cents higher than last Thursday, 23 cents higher than on this date last month and nine cents higher than a year ago today.  Wailuku’s average is $3.82, which is four cents higher than last Thursday, 14 cents higher than on this date a month ago and 15 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

“Gasoline stocks nationwide continue to tighten, measuring below levels compared to the same time in the past three years.  While imports are helping and Western United States refinery maintenance is nearly finished, it’s too early to know if this is enough to keep state averages from leveling off just yet,”  said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.  “The Energy Information Administration’s weekly report showed that West Coast gasoline stocks fell for the fifth week by nearly 800,000 barrels and now sit at 28.2 million barrels.”
