Despite some hefty weekly price increases in other U.S. states, Hawaii pump prices posted just slight changes or no change over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
As of today, the statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.52, unchanged from last week and 17 cents lower than a year ago. The national average gas price is $3.26, 11 cents higher than last week and 28 cents lower than last year.
In Honolulu, the average price for regular unleaded gas is $4.44, which is one cent lower than last week and 12 cents lower than a year ago. The Hilo average price stands at $4.66, which is three cents higher than last week and 15 cents lower than a year ago.
In Kahului, drivers pay an average of $4.51, two cents less than last week and 27 cents lower than a year ago. Lihue’s average price is $5.11, the same as last week and seven cents lower than last year.
"Lower refinery production rates significantly increased gas prices in other Pacific Rim states," said Liane Sumida, general manager of AAA Hawaii. “Right now, the Honolulu average gasoline price is below that of Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle.”
AAA Hawaii reminds members that they can save on fuel by enrolling in the Shell Fuel Rewards® program, which offers discounts at participating Shell gas stations.
