The average gas price for the state continued its upward march during the past week, reaching a level not seen since November 2018, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Also, two regional price averages are over $4 per gallon for regular. Today’s statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.89 a gallon, which is up four cents from last Thursday, 14 cents higher than a month ago, and 70 cents higher than the average last year on the same date. In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $3.82, which is up four cents from a week ago, 17 cents higher than last month, and 82 cents higher than the price on this date last year. The Hilo average gas price is $4.00, which is up five cents from last week,12 cents higher than last month, and 58 cents higher than on this date a year ago. In Kahului, the average price is $3.85, which is up two cents compared to last week, nine cents higher than last month, and 42 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.06, which is up three cents from last week, 13 cents higher than last month and 53 cents higher than a year ago today. “Despite a one-day dip earlier this week, the state gas price average continued to increase as rebounding tourism also continues to increase demand,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Consumers need to remember to apply fuel conservation tips such as combining errands, driving more moderately and removing unneeded items from the vehicle to lighten the load.” Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android.
